A comparison service, not a rental company
Heraklion Drive, of Leoforos Ikarou 45, Nea Alikarnassos, 71601 Heraklion, Greece, publishes carhireheraklion.com as a comparison and referral service. It lists hire cars offered by independent rental companies across Crete, sets them side by side and refers you to the one you choose. Nothing more happens here: Heraklion Drive owns no cars, insures none, runs no desk at the airport or the port and never holds a key.
These terms cover the website only. The hire itself is governed by the rental agreement the supplier gives you at handover, which prevails wherever the two differ.
Whose contract it is
When you choose a car, your dates, your contact details and the vehicle you picked go to the rental company that operates it. That company confirms the car, sets the deposit, decides whether a debit card will do and issues the reference you travel with. The resulting agreement is between you and the supplier alone; Heraklion Drive is not a party to it and cannot alter it.
Using the site is free: when a hire that started here goes ahead, the supplier pays Heraklion Drive a commission from its own marketing budget, which is neither added to your price nor allowed to change the order of the listings.
Prices and availability are read live
The daily rate, the fuel policy, the mileage allowance, the deposit and the description beside each car are read from the supplier's live feed as the page loads; they are the supplier's figures, not ours. In a Cretan summer that feed moves fast: automatics are under a third of the fleet and the cheapest compacts go first.
The binding price is the one the supplier confirms at booking, not an earlier screen, and a photograph shows a class of car rather than the exact vehicle. Supplier-set charges, a one-way drop at Chania airport or delivery to a villa on the south coast, are quoted at booking and never stated here as fixed figures. Report a listing that looks wrong to [email protected].
What the supplier will expect from you
Each rental company sets its own conditions, and meeting them is your responsibility. Before handing over a car a supplier will normally check for:
- a driving licence held for the period stated on the listing, plus an international permit where the listing asks for one
- a driver age inside the band the listing shows, with any young driver charge paid as quoted
- identification in the lead driver's name that matches the booking
- a payment method the supplier accepts, a credit card for the deposit or a debit card where the listing allows it
- written permission before the car boards any ferry, since most Cretan suppliers forbid it
Details entered here must be accurate; a desk can decline a booking when the paperwork does not match.
Amending or cancelling a booking
Amendment and cancellation rules are the supplier's, differ from car to car and are printed against the listing, so read them before you confirm. After that you deal with the supplier directly, quoting your reference; whether a refund is due is its decision, not one we can overturn.
Limitation of liability
Reasonable care goes into keeping the listings accurate and passing your request on without delay, and that is the extent of our role. We do not inspect the vehicles, employ the people who hand them over or set the prices, so a car that fails to appear, a disputed damage charge or a late deposit refund are matters for the supplier under your contract with it.
So far as Greek and European Union law permits, our liability for your use of this website is limited to direct loss caused by our own negligence. Indirect and consequential loss is excluded, such as a missed overnight boat to Piraeus, a forfeited hotel night in Elounda or the cost of a replacement car found at short notice. Nothing here excludes a liability the law does not allow us to exclude, and your statutory rights as a consumer are untouched.
Intellectual property and acceptable use
The guides, comparisons, layouts and code on carhireheraklion.com are the property of Heraklion Drive unless a page states otherwise, and reproducing them requires our written consent. Supplier names, logos and car photographs belong to the rental companies that provided them. The site is licensed for one use, finding a car you mean to hire: scraping, automated querying, invented booking details and any unlawful or commercial use of the forms are prohibited, and access can be withdrawn where they occur.
Governing law, revisions and contact
Greek law applies to these terms, and any dispute arising from them goes before the Greek courts. If you are a consumer living in another European Union member state, that choice does not strip you of the mandatory protections of the law of your own country, and you may bring a claim in your own courts where that law allows it.
We amend these terms as the site and its supplier arrangements change; an amendment takes effect when published here, and continued use after that counts as acceptance. How personal data is handled is explained separately.
Anything about these terms, a listing or the comparison itself can be sent to [email protected].
